Dr. Samuel M. Mitchell Dead

Dr. S. M. Mitchell died at his residence, near Corinth last Tuesday morning, aged 77 years and 6 months. For several years past the doctor has been in poor health, but prior to failing health he was known as one of the most enterprising men of the county. He was one of the few men who opposed the democratic party and voted the republican ticket in this county in 1860 having formerly been a Whig. True to his convictions he stood for the right in sunshine and shadow during the sixites. In 1872 he was elected to the Illinois Legislature, as a member of the 47th district ( James R. Loomis and John G. Newton were other members elected with him in that district ). Returning home he resumed the practice of his chosen profession, thus keeping in active life till the failing of health.

Dr. Mitchell knew how and delighted in entertaining friends at his home. Social and well informed he made the surroundings pleasent.

Funeral services at Zion M. E. Church yesterday at 3 p.m. Conducted by the Masonic order. Elder Nash, by request of the family, delivered the funeral sermon.
